Test

Nothing here

… since this blog was used that I have managed to do another upgrade to WordPress … to 2.7.1.

The image slide shows don’t seem to be working again.

Looked at changing to a three column theme so that I could have a column for Google Adsense. Could not find one that really worked. So this one stays … for the moment.

And the worst of all. Not a single picture posted in 2008 and the first quarter of 2009. Fifteen months of no real creativity. Need to change that as soon as possible.

So everything seems to have gone very smoothly. Except the network connectivity which was sooo sloooow at times during the day. Thank you Telkom and SA Government (but that is a rant reserved for another blog … coming soon to a computer near you).

Newest version of WordPress installed and the newest versions of the few plugins I will be using. Tags were succesfully imported from the old tagging system. The theme was upgraded to its latest version, and the one change I had made to the styles was also very elegantly upgraded. So, to end the upgrade saga, a little test of the technology that will be used to display the photographs.

Click on the thumbnails to get a slideshow. Each group of photographs should have their own short slideshow.

Four images from my 2006 photoblog. Lets’s see what June 2006 had for us:

And let’s see how 3 images will turn out. May 2006 had a couple of interesting photographs:

Now, a single image, which will have its very own slideshow. April 2006 should have had at least one decent photograph:

And finally, a much larger group. January 2006 had some good pictures. Lets see what we can find:

The comments you can see alongside each photograph are the commentary I provided in my original photoblg on blogger.com.

With all the technology sorted out, there is no reason for me not to start posting here at least once a week. Just the mind that needs to be sorted out. And work pressures.

The site name has now been changed. Nothing fancy. It just says what it is.

It’s been a very long time since this photoblog was used. About eighteen months in fact. It will now be used properly. Photographs will be posted regularly. Comments and observations will be made.

Over the last couple of days I have tested a whole pile of things on a test installation. So, before I can actually start any posts here, I still have a bunch of work to do:

  • Upgrade to the latest version of WordPress.
  • Rationalise the plugins, and try to use the native functionality of WordPress. Tags and side-bar widgets will both now use the native WordPress code, even though I am losing some functionality. It will make future upgrades much simpler, and remove the problem of defunct plugin developments.
  • Re-install and upgrade the plugins I select.
  • Remove any unused templates and other non-essential gumph.
  • Rename the site so that it better reflects the current state of affairs.
  • Adjustments to Gallery 2 album structure to cater for the new format of the photoblog.
  • Bring my camera home from the studio occasionally, and actually start using it again.

I think that for this year I am going to try to take a small number of photographs per week and post them as a group. Less pressure to do something every day. But more pressure to be creative about the group. Themes, alternate edits, etc will be the norm.

All caught up. At last.

Pity about all the missing pictures. Somehow I managed to miss in a single two week period the same number of days that I missed in the previous 6 months. And to do it over the half-year anniversary.
